(Nov-22-2006)D-SQUAD GIG "POSTPONED" AFTER PRESS RELEASE LEAKED TO VENUE!
By: micah
D-SQUAD GIG AT CAFE KASHMIR POSTPONED TO LATER DATE
Apparently the spirit of Pat Bacich will not be revived this holiday season. The Wednesday night show at Cafe Kashmir in South Gate was abruptly "postponed" for no reason but with assurances that a make up date will be scheduled soon. In an email the Kashmir promoters apologized for the inconvenience and added in a postscript that "postponing this show had nothing to do with DS latest press release."
Hah?
Here's what we know. Earlier in the day Desperation Squad, in an effort to address recent criticism that they are disingenuous with venue owners and promoters over the slovenly nature of their show inititated "full disclosure" with Cafe Kashmir by sending them a copy of the ManiaTV.com press release issued earlier this month, a media hype sheet that proclaimed...

By: micah
From Meth Oozalaa AKA "Jimmy" Pat Porn.
Tonight at our favorite mexi-food hole in the wall, The Casa Mota, over tacos made from mystery meat and 32 oz bottles of ice cold Carta Blanca, Genghis Con-Job inked up and signed our asses over to High Fidelity Records. The album To Hell in Black will be out in the Fall of this year and available worldwide and at finer record stores near you. For once we needed an entertainment lawyer instead of our usual criminal lawyers and didnt know where to find one. A shout out to I...
If you've been downtown at all, you've probably seen a few of the giant oranges that quite a few of the local Riverside artists have made. There are about 20 or more of them, and are really cool..
KCAL 9 is doing a short on them today at 2pm if you're interested, here's the note from Daniel Foster of the Riverside Art Museum:
Dear Artists and Friends,
A quick update to inform you that there will be television coverage of the Giant Oranges on KCAL-9 at 2 p.m. today and on KCBS-2 at 5 p.m. today. Not much notice, but the buzz about the Giant Oranges continues with each passing day!
We hope that many of you receive the coverage and attention that you deserve for your talented efforts. Also, thanks for your feedback in the past days since my request earlier this w...

As some of you may know, there is an upcoming election on June 6th, 2006. This covers a lot of items from the state level on down. Some of which especially at the state level you may have a lot of opinion about. And you should. (If you don't, you're a bad democratic citizen!!)
It's my firm belief that democracy is most effective in the local elections. These are the county and city wide races for office, and bill offerings that in my humble experience, most people ignore completely. I think this is for several reasons, it's not as glamorous, no news coverage at all, except for perhaps a small column in the Press Enterprise (Shame on you guys), and of course you're dealing with the normal level of voter apathy.
Also, the people in local office stand the most to gain, and the least to lose by promoting your apathy on the subject. The less you pay attention and care, the more they can do things for themselves, like keep their jo...
This is a live webcam image, as my phone runs out of batteries though, I may stop after a bit. Click on the image to zoom, and hit 'Reload' in your browser for the latest image!
(12:02pm) Okay, the WIFI Options here pretty much suck, so I'm connecting through my phone. Who knows how long batteries will last. So no streaming video. Sorry. However, I will be setting up a webcam I Think. That shouldn't be too tough. More later.
Maybe I can get my hands on a set list too.
(12:58pm) Okay, first two bands didn't show, so we're starting with the third.
(Apr-09-2006)Sunday Sunday Sunday! Battle of the Bands
By: micah
As you should already know, as I KNOW you all read this blog religiously, TNT Music Productions is hosting another battle of the bands at Lake Alice in Downtown Riverside (see the locations database).
I'll be judging, so come down and visit, hear some music. Etc.. I'll be there. Come say hi, or kick me, or something, just don't throw greasy food. That makes me unhappy.
I'll also be attempting to stream live video from the event. I'm going to have to try and hack a WIFI connection though, so I'll wait to post details until I have it figured out. Check back about 12pm for details on that!
Fritz Aragorn of Ethospine Records , and the Dogs of Ire , was nice enough to pass on a few albums from Ethospine's library. So I added them for your listening pleasure to the radio stream.
I also received a nice submission from Mystery Hangup , a band from OC.. not really Inland Empire, but since you fools wont stop sitting on your hands and send me stuff, I do what I can to update the content.
Also added is 4 tracks from Prodigal Heresay, which I'm really sorry, but have had around for a while and completely dropped the ball on getting them into the playlist.
There is a new monthly poetry event happening at the Riverside Art Museum called MIXED SIGNALS: 2nd & 3rd Thursdays Poetry Events, starting February 9th. Alright, I finally got around to tweaking the Inland Empire Locations database into working order.. Its pretty fancy with AJAX style updates, and way too much Javascript, so if you have an older browser, it's time to upgrade. However, if you have IE, Firefox or Safari, it should work like a charm.
Check it out, add a few places you like to frequent and let people know how you feel about them!
From Jenny:15

Ya know...where do i begin? I've had this plan in my head for awhile now, and every week i tell myself that i need to grab the microphone at one of the shows and make my speech, and oddly enough something happens to either ruin it or shut me up. Which is the whole reason i've been plotting to do this in the first place. So..ahem..what i've been trying to tell you is this:
I am the daughter of a woman who has always informed me about our strength's as the X chromosome. She volunteered at the Women's Survival Center while i was growing up and put me on the NOW (national organization of women) newsletter when i was 14 years old. Having since moved far away i still will randomly open my mail to find Ms. and Bitch magazines with my name on them, obviously t...
I just wanted to say that last night's Art Walk was really good! I've always enjoyed seeing what great art people have on display at the various galleries downtown, but this last one was the most attended most worthwhile (in my humble opinion) one yet.
I especially enjoyed the show at Division 9 Gallery because they had not only more art than I think I've ever seen in one place before but it was really good and more importantly for the average person, affordable.
I've always loved art, my sister has painted her entire life, and I've had the pleasure of helping her with her mural art from time to time. My mother carved amazing things out of wood, and it's made me very appreciative of the beauty of hand made art since I...
A lot of stuff happening tonight in Downtown Riverside, you should check it out!
As usual, being the first Thursday of the month, the Art Walk will be going on. Many businesses downtown will be open showcasing the artists of Riverside and the Inland Empire.
On Thursday, December 1st, AirTalk will travel to the Riverside Metropolitan Museum to examine the Inland Empire's explosive growth. This will be the final stop in AirTalk's 20th Anniversary Tour. The discussion will begin at 7 pm; the program will air on Friday, December 2nd from 10-11 a.m. AirTalk Host Larry Mantle and a panel of guests will discuss various issues related to growth in the Inland Empire, as well as the revitalization of downtown Riverside. I vow this: Whoever was responsible for perpetrating the Lindsay Lohan number on last night's American Music Awards will pay for it! In a performance so wretchedly bad that it should bring the whole industy down with it, the Lohan fiasco showed just how out of touch the industry is and how shameless they pursue marketing no talents at the expense of others who will seemingly never escape their own personal shitcan hells.
There were two big mistakes. One was having Lohan perform immediately after Rob Thomas, someone who can sing and has charisma. That was a really bad decision by her handlers and the producers of the show, unless their express purpose was ending her career right there (the performance was greatly hyped as her first ever in prime time).
Well, here's a nice story. According to a story in the Mirror (U.K.) George W. Bush wanted to bomb the Al Jazeera studios but was talked out of it by Tony Blair. This was in April 2004.
This should really make the president less popular than he currently is, but it likely won't. But, man, what a hump!
I found this story on Informed Consent, a Middle East related blog written by Prof. Juan Cole. I highly recommend it, for the obvious reason that he links to news media not generally covered in the United States.
Don't know if anyone plays Sony BMG CD's on their home computer, but apparently if you do the CD's automatically and secretly install spyware and a host of other unsavory devices into your Microsoft Windows program, as reported by LA Times business columnist Michael Hiltzik on his blog, Golden State. Check out the story here and be prepared to vomit! ...
On Queer Edge I also met the kid who runs the Pink Is The New Blog blog. He's a cyberspace superstar and he can't even shave yet! But go ahead and check it out. It's pretty good. I talked to him briefly about it and my first question was: I did a blog for a year and no one read it - how did yours become so famous? And his answer was that for two years no one read it and then suddenly a link here, a link there, and BOOM, mass exposure. I, as Panda Man, sat on the couch and held his hand briefly for the show's final segment, "What Have We Learned?" It was a Polaroid moment, I'll tell ya. But, the lesson learned is that you keep plugging away at something until it hits, plain and simple. If a kid knows that, then it's certainly something us geezers can heed as well. Good for him.
(Nov-12-2005)Random thoughts while grooving on 9250x Radio!
By: kevin
Hi, it's the Panda Man and I'm back! Miss me? What? Who the hell am I? SIGH! A while back I posted all these rants explaining how my band is going to start a revolution and it went real well - I got kicked out of my apartment. Well, actually not. I won my court case against my landlady, No, really, I represented myself and, despite the intimidation tactics of her hired gun shark attorney, managed to throw enough documents at the judge to allow him to find the fuck-up, the technicality that allowed me to walk out of the courtroom without having to pay her attorney or worry about the sheriff coming around on Tuesday and locking my ass out!
It was, to put it charitably, an upset, along the lines of Buster Douglas over Mike Tyson. But we all know what happened to Douglas his next time out - well, actually you art farts probably don't, but there's a reason no one remembers who he is. So, despite the victory I'm cutting my ...
Apparently they changed the polling places all around a couple weeks ago.. nice.. Anyhow, if you don't know where to go vote, you can look up your zip and street address here:
I think. Well, give it a whirl. There's a link on the left, or you can click here. Thanks to everyone who has submitted music so far.
If you have music to submit, there's several ways to get it to me:
1) Send it to me in the mail at:
9250x.com Radio Submissions 6185 Magnolia Ave. #121 Riverside, CA 92506
2) Email it to me at micah@9250x.com. This will probably only work for a couple of files at a time, but I can accept emails up to 300 megabytes in size.
3) Find me, and give it to me personally. I'm famous, so that should be easy.

(Oct-30-2005)9250x Radio - The first (that I know of) Inland Empire Music Radio Station!!
By: micah
Call for Submissions!
9250x.com Radio
Starting in November (next week if I can get enough content up) I'll start the 9250x.com streaming internet radio station. It will feature exclusively local Inland Empire bands.
Here's where you come in. I need more music from your bands! I also need permission from you to play your music. If you would like your recordings to be on rotation, please contact me at micah@9250x.com to arrange for it. I'll either need you to upload your music to the server, or I can also take a CD or DVDROM with the recordings on it and convert them to mp3 for streaming.
Keep in mind, this isn't just for music, I want any audio recording from any inland empire artist/hobbyist/dabbler or otherwise audibly inclined individuals or groups to put up. I'll gladly accept:
I need someone to explain something to me. I just don't get Family Guy! Okay? I don't get it. The first time it was on TV it held no appeal for me, but now it's back and I have tried to groove with it but it's no go. Am I wrong? Is Family Guy popular only as an "I hate The Simpsons" substitute? Because from what I've seen, it's just The Simpsons only, you know, not nearly as good.
Maybe I should change the name of this site temporarily to Saturation.com, but if it bugs you, it'll be over on Tuesday. Have faith.
In the mean time, if you're looking for a good time, today is DAY FOUR of Riverside's Saturation Festival!!
Go have a look, it's good fun down at Back to the Grind in downtown Riverside. From 2pm to 10:30 there will be art and music for your entertainment, all for free!! (although I would suggest the purchase of a fine beverige from the establishment), among the art, and DJ's, there will also be live bands playing.
Also, a block away there will be great music playing at The Riverside Brewing Company with "The Partie's Over" and...
An Open Letter to the Royal Falconer, on the Occasion of Day One of the Saturation Festival:
Dear Royal Falconer,
Wow! The first night of this thing turned out to be pretty fine, wouldn't you agree? Well, YOU might not agree, but you'd be the only one.The energy was out of control last night!
Most of the people who came out had never seen The Human Value or Winston and the Telescreen, but people went absolutely apeshit for both bands. Human Value brought their sonic sound out from LA to kick off the festival, and it was incredible, and everything was peaches until your mean bartender (you know, the mean one) started screaming at the band for no good reason *in the middle of one of their song*.
Now, we understand he probably doesn't go to a lot of local shows, and pretty much all he listens to is U2 at ear-bleeding ...

HOLLYWOOD - In a stunning revelation that sent shock waves throughout the entertainment industry it was revealed today that several members of the washed-up 80s band Desperation Squad have been married to Oscar-winning actress Rene Zellweger at various times during the month of October.
Zellweger, whose 5- month marriage to country singer Kenny Chesney was dissolved in September, met the band at their last performance at the Old Town Pub in Pasadena and has apparently married and annuled at least three of the members in the last two weeks alone.

Computer chips that store music could soon be built into a woman's breast implants.
One boob could hold an MP3 player and the other the person's whole music collection.
BT futurology, who have developed the idea, say it could be available within 15 years.
BT Laboratories' analyst Ian Pearson said flexible plastic electronics would sit inside the breast. A signal would be relayed to headphones, while the device would be controlled by Bluetooth using a panel on the wrist.

And no, I'm not talking about Angels baseball (although I would be plenty impressed if any of you art farts could tell me the Riverside sports hero that starts for the Angels).
Today I'm on the bus, minding my own business, when this kid gets on. He's dressed all in black - black sweats, black hoodie - and it's over 90 degrees out. He's got a headset on (black, natch) and what appears to be the Starship Enterprise wrapped around his left arm. I have no idea what it is, I'm thinking at first "Maybe his arm is fucked up," but his arm is fine, it's just that he has this plastic toy strapped to his arm and I don't know if it's a phone, if it's a player, if it's a Professor Frink jet propulsion rocket launcher, or what. Then he digs into his pocket and pulls out a thin case of some sort and takes out what looks like a deck of cards and sticks them into this thingamajig. If I stay on the bus long enough I'll find out what the hell he...
Okay, I realize that referring to women's breasts as a "rack" is sexist and disgusting (for some people), but in today's modern technological age it could very well prove to be an accurate description. Before you condemn me however, let me tell you what I saw at the Taco Factory in Claremont the other night.
I went there to get a burrito and I'm standing there and this girl comes in, a teenager, maybe in college, I don't know, she's got her earphones in, you know, grooving on her personal media environment, and ordering up a veggie tostada (of course!). But as I searched for the ipod, thinking it was placed where it usually is, on her hip or in a jacket or whatever, I was shocked to see that it was tucked firmly between her breasts! And that's not all! She also had her cell phone tucked in there, both items, the ipod and the cell phone, scrunched in there with her boobs! (Oops, I'm sorry, another sexist faux pas) I have to ad...

A DARPA Streak satellite is being launched from Vandenburg AFB this evening at about 7:30, and should be visible from all the western states.. The sun catches the exhaust after things get dark for us, creating a crazy UFO in the sky.. From http://www.spacearchive.info/:
The next Vandenberg AFB rocket launch is a Minotaur on September 22 at 19:24 PDT, the start of a 16-minute launch window. The vehicle will place DARPA's Streak satellite into orbit. Launch occurs during dusk and may cause an impressive display visible as far away as Arizona, Nevada, and Mexico.
As most people know I am the self-proclaimed "Rock and Roll Mayor" and it's true, I did run for the office of mayor of Pomona way back in 1993, the notoriety of which I will soon be using as the lynchpin for this ridiculous publicity stunt that I hope to pull off in the next few months, and that I have been slowly detailing the rationale for in my rambling "revolution" postings.
But there was an actual winner of the election that year, the real mayor of Pomona, Eddie Cortez, who sadly passed away yesterday after an agonizing battle with cancer. My deepest sympathies go out to his friends and family.
Eddie had to have been a success at mayor, he had just won something like his 5th or 6th term last year. And this was a guy who was a complete political novice when he first ran, the owner of a corner gas station, but a man who was immensely popular within his community. Pomona politics up to that point, 1993, had become such ...
The other night I was at a party, and before I walked off with two pieces of birthday cake (the good kind too, one was all chocolate and the other was yellow cake with creamy icing - not any of that gourmet fruit in the middle bullshit), I was talking with my friend Rennie and we were doing the whole artist lamentation thing - bemoaning our fates as poor wretched artists with zero chance in hell to ever make a decent living at it and incurring the inestimable wrath of all other concerned parties who look at folk like us as simply pathetic slackers not capable of dealing with the reality of failure.
"When will you grow up?" they nag. "Isn't it time to get a real job?" they implore. These were the voices in my head talking but because I had just smoked some wicked chronic I was in an ultra paranoid state and thought it was the people at the party.
Fuck that shit. That's what I told Rennie. Then, to make my point, I went to the ta...

Did anybody watch the U.S. Open? It featured some very compelling tennis! And what, I say what, does this have to do with the Revolution?
First of all, let's establish that aspiring to be a professional athlete as opposed to a professional entertainer involve two vastly different evaluation systems. Tossing aside the similar tangibles needed for both - talent, desire, motivation, environment, training - who makes it in their particular field is based on two entirely different criteria.
Both criteria embrace luck, but in different forms. If you are lucky enough to be born into an athletic family, with the genes already provided to give you an edge on your future competitors - example, Barry Bonds, son of Bobby Bond...
Yes, it's true. Based on media reports, and the overwhelming response to aid the victims of Hurricane Katrina, used clothes are far down the list of items that are now needed. As someone said, perhaps Gayle Anderson of the KTLA Morning News, "they don't have closets you know!" But it's not just clothes, apparently, it's bottled water and boxes of mac and cheese. What do they need? Diapers! Okay, whatever, I know when I'm licked. I'll just take my bags of smelly socks and give them to the Goodwill, who will accept them without question and perhaps sell them to others at a reduced price. Hey, maybe a faded hipster will wear them!
(Sep-12-2005)Dragstar News Sept. 12, 2005:
Some news about local bands (and german ones) from Dragstar Records
By: micah
Thanks to Micah Carlson, former member of Slave to Freedom, for this:
From the remains of Still Dreadful there have been 3 projects to date now. Metapraxis with singer Shon Lawhon, Leonard with Guitarist Chris Schoonderword & Drummer P.C. and now the newest project featuring Guitarist Rob Walker and Bassist Gary Katz called "The Walker Trio". Rob is picking up where he left off from prior to his ventures with Still Dreadful creating his style of hardcore, heartfelt emotional Rock-N-Roll. Newly added drummer Kristin Bartkowski was the final piece to the puzzle and now the band is in the studio with Eddie Casillas from Voodoo Glow Skulls' own Dog Run Studios recording there new album which will also be released on Dragstar Records later this year.
Earlier this week I was submerged by Hurricane Crazy Landlady. It's a sad story that could leave me homeless for a while, although maybe it does take a gun pointed at my head to change my living habits from Filthy Pig to merely Filthy Minded Pig.
In any case, I have been honestly crying as I have watched the news this week, it's so horribly sad. I want to do something but I just don't have the money to donate. But, after tackling the diaster that is my apartment, it turns out I do have several bags of clothes that are not yet ready to be pitched in the trash. I realize the focus is on money but it seems to me that even some of my worn out old socks could be of value at least until donated money filters down to provide new clothes to the victims. And I also realized that a community of cash poor artists (like those in Riverside and Pomona) might have their own stacks of clothes to donate.
Since 2001, Saturation has grown from a single mix of art and music into a complex showcase of local artists and performances spanning several days in downtown Riverside. Saturation began as a simple social experiment with the optimistic belief that if everybody had a chance to hear the duodenal rumble of a place that is very alive with creativity, everybody would begin to believe that more was possible. And who wouldn't want to be a part of something where anything is possible, nothing is true, and everything is permitted?
Riverside has seen an incredibly productive surge of art and music in the last few years, and most of us would agree that one of the best things about all of this creative turnout...

As many of you know, New Orleans is in dire shape. It will not be the same again for certain, and for the first time I think, a major US city has practically been wiped off the face of the map. For those that are interested, I highly recommend this Blog being written by an IT guy trying to maintain service for his ISP, DirectNIC, in the downtown area. Lots of photos, etc. A great way to avoid 1 comments. Read More...

I was doing a Yahoo search for "Greatest Rock Band of All Time" and I came across a band who apparently made their own claim several years ago, a now defunkt band called Artbox. There is very little information about them on the web, outside of this Wikipedia entry. Thank god for Wikipedia!
Just based on the Wikipedia entry I would say Artbox was my kind of band! Also, they were involved in many lawsuits after several bands allegedly stole their ideas. They made a couple of records that were well received, even hits, but that now can be had for as little as one cent through Amazon.
Really, the only down side I can see about the band is that they busted up. If you're going to be the "Greatest" you have to stay together.
Ha ha! And you thought I was merely a bitter crank! Let me tell you something about myself. I am a bitter angry person but I am a confident and optismistic artist. And it turns out I was dead right. If you do a Google search for "Greatest Rock Band of All Time" guess who is on the front page? Do I even need to tell you since you can click for yourself and find out?
Of course, if you type in "Lamest Ass Band in the World" you're going to find that the D-Squad has that field all to itself. So we have all the bases covered here, don't we?
What can I tell you? Hell, I didn't even have to pack phony links or write specially encrypt...

(Aug-22-2005)Revolution and the Importance of Political Clout
By: kevin
The other day I made an outrageous statement. I claimed that my mostly unknown band for over 20 years, the Desperation Squad, was the "Greatest Rock Band of All Time." I also noted that the expected response to this would be complete ambivalence. So far, to that end, I haven't been disappointed.
The reasons why that statement, and my band, would be ignored are easy to pinpoint. We have no discernible political clout within the industry. In fact, based on our political clout I can make another outrageous statement:
DESPERATION SQUAD IS THE LAMEST ASS BAND IN THE WORLD
Two things jump out here. One is that this is an exceedingly harsh judgement to make on behalf of my own band. The second is that, on the surface, it seems totally at odds with the "Greatest Band" claim.&n...
Hi everyone, go check out the new public forum I just wrote, it's more responsive than you're used to, and it's using xmlHTTPrequest javascript to quickly deal with the messages. I think it's pretty neat, but then I'm a geek, so you might not be so happy with it.
In either case, click on the 'Message Boards' link on the left to check it out.
Also, check out the Locations list, I just added embedded Google Maps to it, so you see a real satellite image of the location in question.. pretty nifty I think.
Madame Wong, an icon in the late 70s Los Angeles underground music scene, died last week.
I never met Madame Wong, and the Chinatown location was winding down by the time the D-Squad got started. We played the Chinatown Wong's only one time, a gig in which our new 15 year old drummer Ian Crosstown was attacked on stage by drunk and out of control members of the Poets In Distress.
Being an artist takes a lot of guts. The creative process insists that you dive deep into your psyche and deliver work of the most intense personal nature. But this does not mean that the work of art you create is necessarily revolutionary, nor does it need to be.
Starting a artistic revolution takes guts beyond what you would normally allocate to an individual work, even though there are many examples of a single art work starting a revolution in its own right. Still, if you are making a conscious effort at revolution, you need to have the guts to do at least two things:
1) Make a blitheringly outrageous statement, and
B) Stand your ground while everyone around you, even your closest allies, tells you that you are out of your fucking mind.
Yep, that takes guts all right and it brings to...
I have a new blog and NO, it's not my online "diary."
A few of you know that I unsuccessfully attempted to start an online magazine around this time last year. Due to the amount of work required not only to design the site but also write a majority of the articles, as well as the hefty yearly price of reserving a domain name and paying for a server, I gave it up.
Well, now that blogs are becoming an increasingly popular form of internet media, I decided to start it up again (this time, obviously, it's not in magazine format).
MEDIA SHEEP essentially consists of short posts/essays on the media (for me, media in the 21st century encompasses pretty much every aspect of our lives) as well as a few reviews (which will become more numerous over time). Yes, I tend to express my political views, but I often try to do so with an open mind... the only time I bla...
I just added some features to the blog items. First, the whole post isn't displayed on the front page, for long posts, you must click 'Read More' at the bottom. I'm not sure if this is a good idea, but it saves room for more stuff.
Secondly, you can now post comments.. just click 'Read More' and at the bottom of the page, you can add your own opinion.. Join the conversation!
Hello! This is Mr. P writing to you from deep within the musky confines of the Panda Man Compound, somewhere in the Pomona Valley. I am writing because they gave me a user name and a password and the opportunity to natter away at this site, so I am bound to take full advantage. I have just three words for Micah and the other Front Page Contributors: YOU'LL BE SORRY!
I'm here to talk to you about revolution!
Yes! Revolution! It's an exciting keyword. It evokes images of, well, violent uprisings, which is not an incorrect image to evoke on this day of the 40th anniversary of the Watts Riots. However, that's a bit far afield from the revolution I wish to start.
I'm talking about an art and music revolution. Yeah, sure, everybody wishes they could start one. ...
The third issue of MungBeing Magazine, the only "documented" magazine of critical thinking in the arsenal, has hit the digistands!
Fifty-some-odd pages of writing, music, art, and games. Deliriously DELICIOUS!
This bi-month, MungBeing is concerned with exploring the Memescape and other Big Ideas. Heady stuff for a mindful crowd. Take a gander at this intellectual muscle we're flexing.

I just wanted to say thanks to Alaska, Madame Chaos, and the Panda Man
for helping me keep the front page up. I'm sure you'll see some good
stuff from them.
I had a few people tell me that the calendar needs to be back. So here
it is again. Click on the green plus to add events. I re-wrote it
from scratch, I think it's easier to use now.
Also you can now vote to remove items. Essentially if you click the
trashcan next to an event, it'll send me an email that says someone
thinks it should be removed. If I get that, I'll take a look and see
why.
Feel free to edit existing events too! Respect other people's postings
of course, but if you have an opinion, or want to update the
information, just click on the name of the event, and you can go nuts. ...

KUCR 88.3fm presents free screening of award-winning documentary "The Corporation" in downtown Riverisde
July 17, 2005
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE--As part of it's summer "Issues and Dialog"
public affairs series, KUCR, in co-sponsorship with public service
committees of Riverside's Universalist Unitarian Church, present a
free screening of the critically praised documentary "The
Corporation," on Sunday, July 24 at 6:30pm in the church

entertaining examination of the 150-year history and practice of
what is likely the world's most dominant institution, the
corporation. With a deft mix of humor, visual panache, and
seriousness, filmmakers Mark Achbar and Jennifer Abbott and writer Joel
Bakan have fashioned a timely, entertaining film about global

So who knows about what happened to the Fox Theater? I heard rumours
that the city of Riverside declared 'Eminent Domain' and took it away
from the owner who had been sitting on the site since the City had
reneged on a deal they had made to help him finance his plans for the
building as it was a historical landmark.
This is all rumour, so if anyone knows the details, I would love to
find out more. I've always loved that building and I hope the city
doesn't screw it up now. I kinda feel sorry for the owner too if that's
the real story to.
If you know anything, please email me at: micah@9250x.com or use the contact form to the left.
